Introduction: Children of a Common Mother

This has been in my head for a couple of years, but it's only now that I'm putting pen to paper (so to speak). There's a lot of nuances in the relationship between our two countries, and I hope to talk about those here in an objective a sense as possible.

The point that finally spurred me on happened at the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver - a nice little piece that Tom Brokaw of NBC put together about the USA-Canada relationship:



Of course, Al Michaels didn't seem to take much from the piece.

It's easier to focus on our differences, but there's a lot we have in common. It's with that spirit that I'm tackling this ongoing series.
